Open Dental sends each visit to applaud as it happens. Nothing for your team to do day to day.

Open Dental API + API Events (Appointment webhook)

Connects automatically: Open Dental

  1. applaud (once): request Open Dental Developer Portal access from vendor.relations@opendental.com, asking for Read All only (Patients, Appointments, Subscriptions); 1-3 business days.
  2. applaud: generate a Customer key for the practice in the Developer Portal.
  3. Practice: Setup > Advanced Setup > API > tick Enabled > Add Key, paste the key and accept the licence.
  4. Practice: confirm the eConnector (Remote mode) or the API Service on the database server is running.
  5. applaud: POST /subscriptions with WatchTable Appointment, PollingSeconds, Workstation = the practice server's machine name, EndPointUrl = applaud's receiver.
  6. applaud: for each event row with AptStatus Complete, GET /patients/{PatNum} and post FName, WirelessPhone, Email and the visit date to the intake API; discard every other field.

Option 2

Connects through a script on your server

We install a small script on the computer that runs Open Dental. It sends each visit to applaud automatically.

Read-only MySQL reader on the practice server

Connects through a script on your server: Open Dental

  1. Practice IT creates a MySQL/MariaDB user with SELECT only on the Open Dental database (never root).
  2. applaud installs a small service on the database server that polls for appointments set complete since its last run, joins the patient's first name and wireless phone, and posts to the intake API.
  3. Keep queries small and indexed, and give the practice a one-click off switch (Open Dental warns that heavy automated reads can slow the program).
  4. Not for Open Dental Cloud practices: the database is hosted by Open Dental. Use the API route instead.

Option 3

Connects by export

Recent patients are exported from Open Dental and uploaded to applaud. A couple of minutes, and we can set it up with you.

  1. A user with User Query permission runs a saved query (Query Favorites) listing today's completed appointments with patient first name and wireless phone.
  2. Click Export .csv and send the file to applaud.

Keragon: Open Dental generic event trigger

Connects through a partner tool: Open Dental

  1. applaud obtains Open Dental Developer Portal access (same as the direct route) and a Customer key for the practice.
  2. Practice enables the API and adds the key in Open Dental.
  3. In Keragon: connect Open Dental with the Developer and Customer keys; Generic trigger for Open Dental events -> filter completed appointments -> Get patient -> HTTP POST to applaud's intake API.
