Quick verdict
NiceJob is what we’d recommend if you wanted a cheap, friendly, self-serve review tool and you didn’t want a sales call. It does what it says. It is also a passive, software-only tool — so the underlying ceiling is the same single-digit conversion the rest of the category hits.
Who NiceJob is
NiceJob launched around 2017 out of Vancouver and built a following by being everything the enterprise platforms weren’t — small, cheap, easy to sign up for, no multi-week implementation. Their brand is genuinely warm. Their audience is SMBs: home services, dentists, small clinics, salons, retail.
How they actually work
You connect NiceJob to your scheduler or CRM (or upload a CSV of recent customers), the platform sends an automated SMS and/or email asking for a review, and you watch reviews land in a clean dashboard. There’s a referral product bolted on, plus a basic website-builder. Underneath the UX polish, the review-collection mechanic is the standard one-shot ask.
Where NiceJob is strong
- Onboarding speed. You can be sending asks the same day you sign up.
- Price. Among the cheapest credible options in the category.
- Brand and support. Customer service is well-regarded. The product feels human in a way most of the enterprise platforms don’t.
- Cadence automations. The drip sequences and follow-ups are simple to configure.
Where NiceJob falls short
- Healthcare specificity is thin. NiceJob is built for general SMB, not dental, derm, or medspa. There is no standard BAA in the published product tier — you have to confirm before using it with PHI.
- Passive software ceiling. No human team, no real follow-up beyond automated nudges. Same single-digit conversion as every other tool in this slice.
- Review-funnel historically flagged. NiceJob’s legacy product surfaced a “how was your visit?” gate that historically routed unhappy customers away from Google. The category has been moving away from that pattern as the FTC’s 16 CFR Part 465 guidance has clarified. Verify NiceJob’s current configuration before relying on it.
- Reporting depth. The dashboard is functional, not analytical. Multi-location practices outgrow it quickly.
The applaud difference
NiceJob and applaud sit at opposite ends of the same problem. NiceJob asks: how cheaply can we send the ask? applaud asks: how do we move conversion from 5% to 30%?
The unlock is human outreach with multi-channel follow-up — a real person making the call, then SMS, then email, all warm-branded as the practice. That’s structurally what NiceJob doesn’t do, and structurally why applaud lands roughly 6× the conversion per visit. We’re also healthcare-native: BAA on every account, FTC-compliant by design, no review-gating of any kind.
The numbers, side-by-side.
Same patient, same Google profile, same week — here’s where the two products diverge.
| Dimension | NiceJob | applaud |
|---|---|---|
| Engagement model | Software-only — automated SMS + email asks, self-serve setup | Real outreach specialists + SMS + email |
| Prospect-to-review conversion | ~5% (industry passive baseline) | ~30% |
| Pricing model | Monthly self-serve SaaS | Per-result: pay only when a review goes live |
| Approx. monthly cost | ~$75–$150 / month | Zero base — pay only on outcomes |
| BAA / HIPAA | Not standard — verify before using with PHI | Standard, on every account |
| FTC review-gating risk | Historical “happy patient first” flow — verify current configuration | None — every patient gets the same invitation |
| Setup friction | Self-serve, generally same-day | Free done-for-you setup |
When to pick NiceJob over applaud.
If you’re a single-location SMB outside healthcare and you want a cheap, friendly, self-serve tool you can manage yourself — NiceJob is a reasonable pick. applaud is built specifically for dental, medical, derm, and medspa, and the economics only make sense when patients are worth what they are in healthcare. For a coffee shop or a small home-services operator, NiceJob’s monthly fee is the right shape.
